SUMMER OF CURLS
This Summer, Let Your Curls Play Too
Beach days. Pool dips. Camp adventures. Last-minute getaways.
Summer was made for living a little more freely, and your curls should be part of the fun!
That's why we're declaring this the Summer of Curls: a season-long invitation to embrace your natural texture, use less heat, air dry more, and let your curls do what they do best.
Whether you or your kids are poolside, oceanside, courtside, or headed off to camp, we're sharing our favorite tips to help keep everyone's curls hydrated, defined, and healthy all summer long.
So put down the hot tools, step away from the lengthy routines, and give your curls a little room to breathe.
This season, we're keeping it simple:
Hydrate. Hold. Enjoy Your Curls!
Tip #1: Air Dry More
This summer, challenge yourself to reach for the diffuser less.
While occasional heat styling is perfectly fine (with heat protectant), frequent heat exposure can gradually dry out the hair and contribute to frizz, breakage, and a weakened curl pattern over time. Air drying gives curls a chance to retain more moisture and settle into their natural shape.
Our favorite routine:
- Apply Crema Daily Styling Cream to soaking wet hair.
- Layer Al Dente Extra Hold Gel on top.
- Scrunch, air-dry or diffuse, and you're ready to go!
Tip #2: Protect Before You Swim
Whether you're heading into a pool, lake, or the ocean, your curls are about to absorb water.
The trick? Make sure they're absorbing the good stuff first.
Why chlorine can be tough on curls
Chlorine is a powerful disinfectant that can strip away natural oils from the hair shaft. For curly hair, which is naturally more prone to dryness, repeated chlorine exposure can leave curls feeling rough, brittle, and tangled.
Our pre-swim tip
Before getting in the water, apply a light layer of Crema to damp hair.
Crema contains:
-
Squalane to help soften and smooth the hair
-
Coconut Fruit Extract to support moisture retention
-
Baobab and Chia to help nourish strands
-
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) to support hydration and softness
Think of it as giving your curls a drink before they dive in.
Bonus points: braid your hair before jumping in. This helps reduce tangling, friction, and chlorine/salt exposure throughout the hair and makes post-swim refreshes much easier.
Tip #3: Refresh After the Beach
Salt water can leave a beautiful texture behind, but it can also leave hair feeling really dry.
After a beach day:
-
Rinse hair with fresh water.
-
Apply a small amount of Crema throughout.
-
Scrunch to revive your curl pattern.
-
Add a touch of Al Dente if you want extra definition and hold.
Tip #4: After Sports & Sweat
Summer means lots of movement.
Instead of rewashing your hair every after every activity, try a quick refresh:
- Fill a spray bottle with water and add a small pump of Crema.
- Shake well and lightly mist curls until evenly damp.
- Scrunch to reactivate your curl pattern and restore moisture.
- Apply a small amount of Al Dente anywhere that needs extra hold or definition.
- In just a few minutes, your curls are refreshed and ready to go. A full wash day isn't always necessary.
Tip #5: Keep it Simple
The best curl routine is the one you'll actually do.
